Dialogue between business, politics and society
Sustainable transformation requires reliable framework conditions and exchange of different perspectives.
As a global water technology company, the Wilo Group operates at the intersection of infrastructure and energy, digitalisation and water management. Political decisions in these areas have an impact on how our solutions can be developed and implemented.
Wilo therefore takes part in discussions at national and international level, contributing its experience from markets and R&D to these discussions. In this way, practical challenges from industry can enrich political and societal perspectives.
A recent example is the Wilo Industry Conference 2025 in Venice. Under the title ‘Water – Shaping the Future’, representatives from politics, academia and business came together. The focus was on the future of water management, tackling water scarcity, artificial intelligence and the European Blue Deal. The conference was organised in collaboration with the European Water Association.

With the Wilo Industry Conference, the Wilo Group creates a platform where different perspectives on key issues for the future come into dialogue.
This type of event brings together specialist technical knowledge with political, scientific and business perspectives. This creates a forum for discussion, where not only technological possibilities are debated, but also issues relating to regulation, social responsibility and long-term feasibility.
The 2025 Venice conference illustrated this approach particularly clearly: The discussion about water scarcity and the European water transition was linked to the question of how artificial intelligence can contribute to more resilient water systems. In this way, dialogue becomes a tool for bringing together different interests and exploring possible courses of action together.
Bringing knowledge into political dialogue
Socio-political dialogue thrives on solid experience and practical knowledge. Wilo therefore draws on its practical expertise – for example, in the areas of efficient water management, resilient infrastructure, digitalisation and the use of artificial intelligence. The aim is to consider technological development in a broader context and take account of their impact on people, cities, businesses and public infrastructure.
Wilo also contributes this perspective to international events. Wilo was part of the German delegation to the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York. This included Wiloin the international dialogue on the future of global water resources.
Networks for future-proof water management
Social challenges transcend borders. This is why international networks that bring together knowledge, experience and diverse interests are essential.
The Wilo Group is active in national and international associations and organisations. Many of these partnerships share a common goal: the sustainable use of water and natural resources. Wilo considers such networks to be an opportunity to work with other stakeholders to find solutions to complex challenges.
These networks also endeavour to bring together experiences from different regions. This is because the challenges facing water management vary around the world, as do the regulatory, economic and social conditions. This fosters dialogue bridging local experience and global issues.
Wilopark as a venue for social dialogue
Dialogue requires places where people can come together. Wilo has created such a place with the Networking Cube at Wilopark in Dortmund. The market partner meeting centre brings together guests from business, politics, civil society, academia and finance, and provides a venue for events, conferences and dialogue.
Wilo explicitly sees the Networking Cube as a place to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships and work together on sustainable solutions. In this way, social dialogue has also become an integral part of Wilo’s corporate culture in a physical sense.
Case study: Discussing water together
One example of this approach was the Water Summit held at Wilopark, which was organised by the Circular Valley Initiative in collaboration with experts from business and politics. Wilopark provided the setting for a cross-sectoral discourse on water and sustainability. Initiatives such as these bring together perspectives from business, politics and other parts of society, creating opportunities for joint solutions.
Wilo also fosters this exchange at relevant industry gatherings. At IFAT 2026, Wilo welcomed not only numerous international visitors but also prominent political guests. The focus was on resilient water and wastewater infrastructure, energy efficiency, and the role of digitalisation and AI.
The Global WATER AI Academy as a platform for social discourse
The Global WATER AI Academy combines education, innovation and socio-political dialogue.
It brings together experts from the fields of water management, science, politics and technology to discuss the future of sustainable water infrastructure. The discussion not only covers technological developments but also governance, regulation and social responsibility.
The Academy thus creates a platform where new ideas can emerge, knowledge is shared and global networks grow.
In this way, it plays an active role in shaping the conditions for digital and sustainable water management.
